Technical Writer

Department: Engineering
Location: Lexington Park, MD

ASI is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join our Engineering team to support US DoD projects in Patuxent River, MD. This position requires a self-starter with strong communication skills that works well in a dynamic environment.

As a part of our growing team, you will:

  • Create technical documents including item and product specifications, functional and allocated baselines, system requirements documents, test plans and procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), test/technical reports, installation data instructions (IDI), installation and removal briefs and documentation, and report data supporting flight clearances
  • Review and analyze the systems and components to ensure the document’s completeness
  • Perform technical editing and formatting for new, existing, and updated documents
  • Assist with creation of the documents by working individually and collaboratively within project teams, and with other personnel involved with the document
  • Stay current with industry software products, concepts, practices, and procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Using a variety of COTS software products for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures to determine operating procedure and detail
  • Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods
  • Review manufacturers and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment
  • This position may require documentation and system configuration management tasks including configuration control and documentation related to technical reviews and audits
  • May travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 8+ years of work experience in performing the stated functions
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft 365 applications to include, Project, Office, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and qualify for Secret Clearance
